Educator

Dr. Scott Rieker teaches four ensembles at Frostburg State University in Western Maryland: the Chamber Singers, University Chorale, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Troubadours tenor/bass choir. His focus is on creating beautiful, vibrant tone through healthy vocal production. Dr. Rieker’s research interests are in the application of a constructivist approach to choral music education, particularly in empowering strategic risk-taking in choral singers to aid in the creation of knowledge and improved accuracy. He is currently collaborating with Dr. Irene Apanovitch-Leites to study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during the spring semester of 2020 on choral music educations. Dr. Rieker is also a regular clinician for high- and middle-school choirs, and serves as a clinician for Peak Group Travel.
